Okay, I will call this the best concert nobody saw; or should I say, the best concert no one but the performers, their friends, and the staff of Cummel’s saw. Perhaps it is the lack of alcohol that scared people off, but hey, I got tanked before I came over.
The music did not start at 7:00 like advertised, so I made the rounds and I got to know some of the musicians. I first met Katie, from Karmella’s Game.

Katie is from Baltimore, likes to knit hats and purses, and also likes to rock out completely

:

I cannot say how much Karmella’s Game utterly rocked. Katie and Mandy were a blur of correographed riot grrl action, plus they had incredible voices that harmonized perfectly over the thumping bass and rythym of the bassist and drummer, who worked together flawlessly to provide a room shaking beat that begs to be moshed too… though there wasn’t any room for moshing.
Even though I probably shouldn’t, I’ll still go on about Katie.
Her cordination and just sheer rockitude was just spetacular. Here is her “station” she manned:

While playing all four of these keyboards she also stomped, lept, gave signals to her band mates, shook her hair back and forth in unison with Mandy, and in general was very awesome. Class act all the way. If you want to hear a sample of what they sound like, check out their MySpace link.
I also met Christopher Mast:

He is a real cool cat who actually used to live in an apartment I used to live in across the street from Cherry Street in Galesburg. His singing was actually really good, which is why it sucked he was last in the playing queue.
Unfortunately I forgot to check how much power my camera had before I came over, so I realy only have a few pictures of the four hours of rock. Thankfully, Christopher had a fully powered camera and he’s going to let me use some of the pictures he took, so then I’ll be better able to show the various artists, like the very awesome The Complete Strategist, who are touring with Karmella’s Game. Here is a picture of Katie, Mandy, and also two guys from The Complete Strategist whose names I unfortunately forgot.

I will write more here once I get some of those images, but in the end I really think it is a shame people missed Friday night at Cummel’s and I’m very glad I got to check it out.

Hey! There were at least TWO or THREE “general public types” there! LOL
It was truly a fun show even though most were “with the band” and the two actual bands took off after their sets, leaving us acoustic singer/songwriter types alone to finish the night out. I counted about twenty-something people from the stage even as late as I played!
Noticed you got plenty of pictures of the Karmella chicks before your battery died!…Hmm… [:sungl:]
Soon as I get my computer set up here, I’ll fire up Photoshop and get those pictures posted to a URL. I have to find some better pictures of “yours truly” so you can replace that one of me that looks like I just rode cross country in a van with Tommy Chong!
For now, though, it’s naptime. I’ve been driving a fully-packed, non-AC car for a week!
Cheers,
Christopher

At any rate, yes, Karmella and Complete Strategist did indeed commit a rock faux paus. Though in their defense they did have a lot of equipment and bins of knitted goods for sale so perhaps they needed more time to load up. Also I knew they were looking for a place to crash for the night, which I offered them, but they said they found somewhere else. [:blerp:] Oh well, no rockers staying at my place besides me. [:glower:]
Can I order your album online? I would of bought one at Cummel’s but I had no cash, or fresh bateries. LOL
Decay!Gee!

I just want to speculate as to the origin of the name “The Complete Strategist”. I believe it is taken from the 1954 Rand Corporation book by J. D. Williams “The Compleat Strategyst: Being a Primer on the Theory of Games of Strategy”
Now you may ask “Why is the title spelled funny?” Because it is a literary refference to a 1653 book by Izaak Walton “The Compleat Angler: Or the Contemplative Man’s Recreation”. Although Mr. Walton’s book was published over 350 years ago it is still in print.

I’m sorry I missed the show. It sounded like it was worth seeing. However, I have this thing called a job and it sucks the very life out of me…and takes up a lot of evenings as well.
[]
Charles–Thanks for the extra smilies.

It was pretty nice, and even though Karmella was the headliner some of the best parts were the accoutist, one-person band acts. There was a very creative individual named Brandon who played not only guitar but also tamborine with his foot and also a Fischer Price Xylophone. He even got the crowd to stomp and clap to add percussion and additional fun to his music.
Another notable performer was JJ. He is able to make the most amazing sound textures with his guitar. I really will have to start bringing along a sound recorder to be able to post smaples of some of the music I encounter.

Also, I am going to have to start proofing my postings for spelling errors. [][][:glower:]

Hey! I finally got around to posting the pics from Cummel’s! Some of the people didn’t come out so well, but you’ll be glad to know that the pictures of the girls came out fine. Don’t burn out your mouse viewing them! [:sungl:]

hehe, sorry, it’s my fault. The URL and IMG buttons aren’t working properly. Unfortunately my tag system is case-sensitive, so that’s why your tags didn’t work. I’ll have to get cracking on that for the “new moo” coming next week.
Anyhoo, I’ve web-jacked some of the images from your site… hope you don’t mind. [] Let me know if you’d prefer that I copy these to my own server so I don’t eat up your bandwidth.
