A piercing stare

Check out this James Sooy’s spectacles:

He’s actually pierced the bridge of his nose so he can just hook glasses directly on them. I’m not sure who it was but one of my friends had mentioned the idea before; well, there you go. Sounds like a cool idea, but I’d rather get lasik surgery.

Living Machines and Gene Simmons

12 Apr 2005 In: Science & Philosophy, Uncategorized

One last post before I go to sleep. Here is a really interesting article in Wired magazine that talks about how attributes we normally assign to living organisms are showing up in modern technologies:

There is also this article about micro-machines that have a metal skeleton but real organic material which grew over it to form living robots:

And, finally, scientists have successfully isolated Gene Simmons:

Third Post Within One Hour

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any views on this whole privatized social security issue. I admit I am having trouble finding any “unspun” info on the matter. I am leaning towards thinking it is would not benifit anyone too well, and it looks like in the end it will cut back on actual benifits one would receive.

On the other hand, the idea of having a private account that you can hand down to your kin does sound somewhat appealing, but several blogs I’ve seen specify that you may not even be able to give the majority of your private account to your decendants.

Here are some interesting political cartoons on the subject:

Google Satellite View

Hey, if you have not already, check out Google’s new Satellite View on their map feature. It’s very Orwellian and very cool! Take a look at Sanfransisco:

Not every bit of the Earth is available in such detail, but hopefully soon I’ll be able to trek through China, float down the Nile, and play “Spot the Pengie” in Antartica

Strange Bedfellows

12 Apr 2005 In: Politics & Religion, Uncategorized

I’ve been thinking about making a politcal cartoon called “Strange Bedfellows” that stars a married couple, an Elephant and a Donkey, that bicker about political issues like a married couple would about money, the kids, etc… I tried to draw some prototype characters but I have just come to realize that I can’t draw very well. I’m much more of an abstractionist than a cartoonist. Still, I will keep trying to draw the cartoon and will post my successes here as they come.

I do know that I want the husband to be a trucker-nascar type republican and the wife to be an NPR-GreenPeace type democrat. I’ve thought about making the elephant like G.W.Bush and the woman a zionista but decided against those obvious stereotypes in lieu of others, hehe…

Soon to come to this blog:
