There has been much talk lately about pediatricians wanting to invent some sort of choke proof hot dog.  Supposedly, it’s a major killer of kids under fourteen.

I can think of a great way to make hot dogs choke proof and it comes from an dumb holiday joke.

“Q:What do you call an empty hot dog?  A: A hollow weenie”

Just hollow out the hot dogs length-wise, providing a tunnel running down the length of the hot dog that would allow the kid to breath through the hot dog even if it became lodged.

Does that sound possible?  Or would the “tunnel” running down the length of the dog collapse under the pressure of the kid’s esophagus?

Here’s an interesting invention: the Dunk Mug.  It includes a slot where cookies can be stored.  It could be cool to have, but it looks like said cookies could easily slide on out and ruin your day.

Ever hear of poutine?  It’s a Canadian treat that consists of french fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy.

Anyone remember Rax roast beef? I had completely forgot about it until I saw a random image on Flickr of this billboard in Joliet, IL. There aren’t too many of them anymore, and if I remember correctly they were all pretty much like Arby’s so it’s probably not much of a loss.

Of course another great fast food chain you don’t see anymore, or really at all because they went bankrupt and were sold off to Hardee’s, is Burger Chef:

I think IHOP or Uncle Bill’s should deliver.

Even more so, why do no fried chicken places deliver?

Zee Germans have come up with a new invention: “Cheeseburger in der Dose”, or “Cheeseburger in a Can”. You essentially boil the can in hot water, open it up, and there you have your cheeseburger, or something much like it.

It can’t be much worse than a Hot Pocket:

I has big problems before with the sauce curdling or it just not having that right consistency or taste. I think the problems I had were using too much heat and not making a proper roux.

Bechamel sauce is one of the “mother sauces”, one of several key sauces that can be used to make many dishes and other sauces.

I folded in mustard, cheddar cheese, and lumache to make some really tasty macaroni and cheese. It was a bit rich… but it was pretty damn good overall. I saved some of the mac and cheese to make “Mac and Cheese Rangoons” tomorrow.

Once inside I saw that there was another long line to overcome, wrapping all the way around the interior of the store. So many people excited about Wendy’s coming back!

When I got to the front of the line, I then remembered I had no cash! Fortunately, Wendy’s now accepts credit cards! I ordered my Spicy Chicken combo with a frosty instead of a drink and enjoyed myself a little bit of giddy gluttony:

What was it like? Imagine a quesadilla made with pancakes instead of tortillas.

I tell you, I miss Wendy’s quite a bit. Swansea is a nice start, but hopefully STL proper will be stocked with Spicy Chickens and Frosties soon.

Could it be that the best sushi in the entire St. Louis metro area is not in St. Louis? “The Sake” just recently opened in O’Fallon, IL and I’ve been there several times already.

The interior decoration is top notch and the sushi plates are not only delicious but also creatively plated.

Best thing of all, it’s just down the road from my office.

The only thing about it I thought was odd is that it is built into the other half of the “Hot Shots” sports bar, kind of the exact opposite of “The Sake”. Then again, what could be better? You’ve got both the “Red State” and the “Blue State” cultures living side by side in harmony.

At any rate, the good news is that if you like sushi and you live on the Illinois side of the river you don’t have to drive over to Missouri to get the best. Itadakimasu!

That’s right folks, you can make yogurt in the comfort of your own home! All it takes is some milk and… yogurt.

Specifically, you need an active culture of the yogurt-making bacteria. Store bought yogurt is just the easiest way to get hold of some.

They’ve discovered a cure for not having heartburn… still, I am a bit tempted to try to make this dish, but I haven’t mastered making chicken fried chicken yet.
