I’ve been a bit of a fan of South Park for a while now, not because of the scatalogical humour and ribald humor, but because of their biting social commentary. No one is safe from Stone and Parker’s animated stabs at every public figure or belief, whether they be liberal or conservative. This includes all religions, even those religions held by members of the South Park production and acting team.
Isaac Hayes, who wrote the theme to Shaft and was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, does the voice of “Chef”, an elementary school cook who helps teach the main characters of South Park about the facts of life. The Chef character borrows much from blaxploitation films and often breaks into song about making epic love to women while sporting a chef’s hat 24/7.
Issac Hayes has lended his deep, powerful voice to aid the creators of South Park in spoofing Christianity, Judaism, Budism and many other religions… but in a recent episode where Scientology got the South Park treatment, a religion Isaac Hayes is a devout believer in, the Chef character was no where to be found, and now Isaac Hayes has announced that he is forever leaving South Park, effectively killing off Chef.
Does this mean that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are going to be labeled as Suppressive Persons?
